Introduction

The indigenous peoples of Alaska--such as the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian--have a rich and long history. Basketweaving is one important aspect of native Alaskan culture. The product of techniques handed down from generation to generation, native Alaskan baskets are both practical tools and beautiful pieces of art. This website will explain some of the history of native Alaskan basketweaving and the principles of math that are embodied within it.
