Instructions for usage of this Owari simulation.
There are many different versions of Owari, but for the most part they follow the same core ideals. Setup involves sowing the beans into the bins, in this version, equally into 12 bins for a total of 48 beans. The game play revolves around removing beans from a bin, and then sowing them counter clockwise around the game board until they are all used up. In a normal game this would alternate with another user with more elaborate rules springled in to make it interesting. This is a simulation that only deals with a single user scooping and distributing the beans.
The purpose of this simulation is to allow the user to look at one dimensional cellular automata. There are certain patterns that will replicate indefinetly if correctly set up. One of these is the 4-3-2-1 setup where scooping from the bin with 4 in it and distributing will add 1 to 3, 2, and 1 with 1 left over to be put in an empty bin, producing 0-4-3-2-1. It should be noted that because of visual limitations only those numbers less then 8 are displayed with beans. All higher numbers are represented by the number that coresponds to how many beans are held in each bin.
There are three modes that the simulation operates in. Each mode is chosen from the drop down box at the top of the simulation screen.
Mode 1. Setup
In this mode the use has the option of distributing the beans as they see fit. For logistical purposes the total count of beans is kept to 48. So if more beans are needed in a bin, they must be first removed from another.
Clicking with the middle or right mouse button inside of a bin will remove a bean from that bin and put it in the reserves. Clicking with the left mouse button will add a bean if there are any in the reserves.
Mode 2. Single Step
This mode is used for cycling for only one iteration. Clicking in a bin with any of the mouse buttons will remove all of the beans from that bin and distribute them counter clockwise into the other bins.
Mode 3. Continuous
Continuous mode allows for the repeat cycling of removing beans and redistributing them. One click and all of the beans in that bin will be taken and distributed around counter clockwise, as in the single step mode. But it doesn't end there, all of the beans in the next bin in the counter clockwise rotation are taken and distributed, and so forth. This can be stopped by either selecting another option in the mode selection box, or clicking the stop button.
