Many of the processional crosses of Ethiopia can be simulated with a three-fold iteration. Although they are now used by Christian church proceedings, related designs can be found on ornaments excavated from the city of Axum in Northern Ethopia in the second half of the first millennium B.C.E., so we should not assume that the three-fold iteration was originally related to the Christian trinity.
